More Pictures of the Turkish Raid...

Turkish Raiding Force...Austrian Border 1740's...Koenig Krieg II.

The Turks have plundered an area on the Austrian border! There Light cavalry are about scouting and plundering... This is the main column heading south loaded with goods etc...

They come upon a small Allied Austrian Brigade made up of Reich Armee troops. They are holding a cross roads and defending the village of Wurtburg. The Reich Armee troops are instilled with hope and confidence by the urgings  of Friar Hochwitz.

The battle goes well for the Reich Armee troops...However, after several advances and assault's the Turks finally get into contact with the Reich soldiers! The Turks overwhelm the untried Reich troops and drive them from the field...But at a heavy cost!

the Turks soon recover and pillage and burn the little town and move on south, back to their infernal lands.

This scenario was played out a few years ago. We used Koenig Krieg II. We had not gotten KK III yet. The figures are 15mm from Old Glory and Essex miniatures. It was a small game but really exciting. The battle went both ways until the very end. That's when the Turks rolled really good and the Reich troops rolled really badly!

Field of Glory Battle...

Saturday evening some kindred spirits got together to play a game of "Field of Glory" ancients battles. It was 450 pts of Mongols against 450 pts of Seljuk Turks from the Crusader Book of the series. the figures were 15mm of various manufactures. Mostly Old Glory, the Mongols were all "Legio Miniature's"

The game started off with a good roll for the Turks. They got to go first. Thus, they gained a good jump on the Mongols and their light cavalry got right into the faces of the Mongol lights.

The heavy forces plodded forward. The light cavalry shot at each other, caused some disruptions then there was some charges... The lights battle was pretty even.

The Mongol Heavy cavalry from their right never got into the fight. However, the Mongol heavies on the left did some good work. The Turk defensive supermen chased off the Mongol heavy cav. And established a good front. The Turk light bowmen had a good day too. They got driven back by a Mongol hvy cav charge , but regrouped and managed to drive off a regiment of Mongol lights.

Everything was starting to mix up well then the store had to close..Rats. 10:00pm comes on fast. It was a draw, and was a really fun game. We have not played the rules for several months. We need to play them more often!! They are truly a great set of rules. Once you get them down they really shine!! Highly recommended, note we used the 1st  edition.

here are some of the action pictures...

Koenig Krieg Game from the Past...

Here are some pictures of a KK II game between the Austrians and Allies against the French. It was played out a few years ago. Was going through some old files and found these pictures. As I remember the French were doing pretty good. However, the Austrians were about to do some major damage to French center. Their artillery was destroyed and the Austrians were concentrated for a mighty blow! Then we had to call the game...Wife and kid stuff as usual...It was a lot of fun.

Mongols and Gauls...

Here are some pictures of some 15mm Mongols I recently painted for a friend. They are from Legio Miniatures. Very nice figures, lots of good detail. I also included some pictures of Chucks Gauls fighting my Late Republican Romans a while back. We use Field of Glory rules. I think they really do a great job at portraying ancient warfare. In spite of its critics. It really is a good set of rules once you really get it down.

Koenig Krieg III at Great Escape...

Yes indeed, it was a good old fight. There was 1000pts of  French against 1000pts of Austrians. The set-up was basic. Both army's deployed up to 12" on board and went at it.

The Austrians had two heavy cavalry brigades to the one French heavy brigade. The French had a Swiss brig. and two Regular French brig.. Plus a Hussar and a light infantry batt. and a class 2 general.

The Austrians also had a hvy artillery battery and two infantry brig. and a class 1 general.

Both armies moved forward as fast as possible. There was a cavalry clash on flank. Three French Hvy cav Regiments charged up hill against two Austrian medium cav regiments! There was two melees. The French won one the Austrians won the other!
As the cavalry clashed on that flank the infantry became engaged! There was some musketry and cannonades. Then some great melees all along the line! The Austrians held and the French Swiss got mauled and stalled. the other brigades from both armies basically held rather firm. But had many casualties.

The French Hvy Cav on the flank maneuvered so as to attack the Austrian infantry flank! Out of two charges. One was crushed and the other went through the Austrian armored cavalry! The French Cavalry had a very good day.

About turn six we had to call the game...Family stuff. We surmised that at the time it was a good draw. We both had a really fun time.
