1967 Encounter in Sinai... Cold War Commander Rules....

Last Sunday some of the gang got together to play an "ad hoc scenario" set  in the 1967 Arab Israeli war in the Sinai. It pitted initially an Egyptian mechanized infantry company in a forward village position. Assailed by at first an Israeli mechanized infantry company. Both commands had reserves on the way to be "diced" for as to entry times.... The Israelis also had air and artillery support available.

The Egyptians int he village were an advanced force holding an important point on the way to hinterlands of Israeli... The main Egyptian force was stalled a few miles back after some rather effective Israeli air raids and interdiction's!

The local Israeli's command had sent all available IDF forces via the dessert flank of the occupied village to the surprise of the Egyptian commander! The IDF came out of the swirling sands of the dessert and came upon the defended village on a flank which had no heavy anti tank weapons. They had all been deployed to face the road facing north.

The IDF assault went rather well for most of the game. The Egyptians gave as good as they got but as IDF reinforcement's came on they were driven back but not completely dislodged from village. When the tardy Egyptian reserves came on they hit the IDF hard and established themselves once again into the village outskirts. It was a tough fight for both parties. losses were about even, as well as positions. The objective for both commanders was to gain possession of village and destroy or drive back enemy forces. The game ended with night and a firm draw on the battlefield. Perhaps the morning will see a renewal of the fight for the village... Or not...       Note; The Arrfff still watches on...RIP 7/20/2014...

Order of Battle... Jacobite Battle 8/15/2014...At Great Escape Games.

The figures used in the Jacobite Battle Post were 90% Old Glory 15's, with some Essex a few others from Washington's Wars miniatures.  The old Glory figures were of course the Age of Reason Line. The Washington War Figs were the two cavalry figures. The green guys aka... The Georgia Rangers, with a complementary Seneca Brave! General Oglethorpe had recruited this squadron for service in Georgia. There was a Seneca warrior or two that was with Oglethorpe while he was in Scotland. The mounted Rangers were almost on their way to the colonies. However, they were drafted into the "45 Rebellion".

The Royal forces in the scenario were as follows...

Class 0 general.

One British line battalion;  16 figs, class 5, British Fire and steadfast.

One composite Light Cavalry Regt. ; 8 figs, class 5,   Note, made up of 10th Light Horse, Volunteers. Hessian Hussars and the Georgia Rangers.

One Battalion Highland Independent Companies; class 5, average shoots, wild charge.

Two Battalion's of Volunteers/militia; 12 figs, class 4, average shots, unreliable.

Jacobite Forces in the scenario were as follows...

Class 0 General.

Highlander Regt; 16 figs, terror, Highland charge, poor shots, short range.

Two Lowland Regts.: 16 figs, average shots, wild charge.

Baggots Hussars; 8 figs, irregular cavalry, weak.

Koenig Krieg III... Someware in Scotland 1745...

The Duke of Perth has mobilized some Lowland Scottish regiments and brought with him a Strong Highlander regiment. His force is moving  toward the city of Sterling. Hopefully to catch the Royal forces off guard and overrun the fort there. The munitions and supplies as were as the fort would be a great help for the rising clans!

However, the Royal forces got wind of the Scottish advance and concentrated all the local militia and volunteer regiments in the area. As well as the British 15th regt of foot stationed at Sterling.

The British army marched north until their pickets came upon the Scottish army deployed on a small hill. There was only one thing to do. Drive those lowly Scottish rebels from the hill and run them down!

As for the Scots, well they had a strong defensive position. Come on and try to drive us from our position....

The game started with a strong British advance. The combined light cavalry regt charged the lowlanders on the hill but were driven back... The British light horse was chased away from the field by Baggots hussars. Next the British main line came up and due to some good initiative rolls was able to blast away the Highland regt.... as well as the lowlanders. The lowlanders shot away at their foes. But they could not stop the British advance. Even a charge to the rear of the British line by Baggot Hussars was driven back. Baggots hussars just did not have the metal to overtake the Edinburgh regt of volunteers!

In the end the British drove the Scots from the hill and from the field as well...

It was a fun little game, using the Koenig Krieg III Highland army list... not official.

Next game, lots of Highlanders.... Bonnie Prince Charlie is moving up with the main Scottish army!

More Pictures of the Turkish Raid...

Turkish Raiding Force...Austrian Border 1740's...Koenig Krieg II.

The Turks have plundered an area on the Austrian border! There Light cavalry are about scouting and plundering... This is the main column heading south loaded with goods etc...

They come upon a small Allied Austrian Brigade made up of Reich Armee troops. They are holding a cross roads and defending the village of Wurtburg. The Reich Armee troops are instilled with hope and confidence by the urgings  of Friar Hochwitz.

The battle goes well for the Reich Armee troops...However, after several advances and assault's the Turks finally get into contact with the Reich soldiers! The Turks overwhelm the untried Reich troops and drive them from the field...But at a heavy cost!

the Turks soon recover and pillage and burn the little town and move on south, back to their infernal lands.

This scenario was played out a few years ago. We used Koenig Krieg II. We had not gotten KK III yet. The figures are 15mm from Old Glory and Essex miniatures. It was a small game but really exciting. The battle went both ways until the very end. That's when the Turks rolled really good and the Reich troops rolled really badly!

Field of Glory Battle...

Saturday evening some kindred spirits got together to play a game of "Field of Glory" ancients battles. It was 450 pts of Mongols against 450 pts of Seljuk Turks from the Crusader Book of the series. the figures were 15mm of various manufactures. Mostly Old Glory, the Mongols were all "Legio Miniature's"

The game started off with a good roll for the Turks. They got to go first. Thus, they gained a good jump on the Mongols and their light cavalry got right into the faces of the Mongol lights.

The heavy forces plodded forward. The light cavalry shot at each other, caused some disruptions then there was some charges... The lights battle was pretty even.

The Mongol Heavy cavalry from their right never got into the fight. However, the Mongol heavies on the left did some good work. The Turk defensive supermen chased off the Mongol heavy cav. And established a good front. The Turk light bowmen had a good day too. They got driven back by a Mongol hvy cav charge , but regrouped and managed to drive off a regiment of Mongol lights.

Everything was starting to mix up well then the store had to close..Rats. 10:00pm comes on fast. It was a draw, and was a really fun game. We have not played the rules for several months. We need to play them more often!! They are truly a great set of rules. Once you get them down they really shine!! Highly recommended, note we used the 1st  edition.

here are some of the action pictures...
